What could I have done to stop this (NLHE)?
I played the Turbo Takedown today at pokerstars, and I was doing pretty well. After the first bubble burst ($90), we were nearing the 2nd tier when this hand occured:

blinds 1k/2k, medium sized antes.
Me: next to UTG, holding QQ. My stack is 24k. My plan was to fold everything in early position, and steal from late positions. Nobody had been calling my all-ins, so I was confident I could get a safe steal out of this.
UTG: 50k in chips. He bets 6k.
Now here I'm nervous about somebody behind us going over the top, so I just call. Everybody else folds.

Flop comes down: JJ7, two spades. UTG, acting first, bets 18k, putting me all in. I call, he flips over 88. turn and river comes out 10 and 9, giving him the winning straight, and dropping me out of the tourney. About 10 minutes later, the next tier bursts (I could have sat out and made it) and i end up losing an additional $60.

Is there any way I could have stopped this?

This is one of those annoying situations in Texas Hold'em.

Sure you could have moved all in pre-flop, but he might have called anyway, putting you on AK or AQ or worse, and thinking it was a race with you as a slight dog.

Clearly he assumed you missed the flop. So decided to put you all in, to make sure you didn't out draw him.

I think this is one of those classic situations where it almost didn't matter what you did, you were screwed.
